What is Apitherapy?
Apitherapy is the use of bee products for medicinal purposes. The word comes from the Greek apis, meaning bee. What proof is there that Apitherapy works?
We have a variety of scientific research studies, which are quoted throughout the site. Please visit the individual sections for Royal Jelly, Bee Pollen, and Propolis for further details. As with all complementary therapies, we advise that you continue with any other treatment programme that may have been prescribed by a doctor, and that you seek appropriate advice before starting any treatment with Apitherapy products.
Susan Brockdorff is a trained nutritional consultant, and can offer advice about how to integrate our products into a healthy diet.
Will your products work for me?
As is also the case with prescription medicines, the effectiveness of each product will vary from one person to another. We would suggest trying our products for a period of three to six weeks, and assessing the improvements after that time. Can your products help me lose weight?
Studies have shown that Pollen is particularly useful at helping to increase the rate at which users can burn off calories. It is also a useful appetite suppressant, which can help reduce the cravings for food which make dieting so difficult.Bee Pollen is also a complete food, i.e. one which contains the full range of nutrients required for day-to-day living. As with any weight control product, Pollen can only be effective when combined with a well-planned diet, and a suitable exercise programme.
Susan Brockdorff can advise on integrating Pollen, or Apimist plus Pollen, into your diet
Is Apitherapy safe?
Our products are derived purely from constituents of the bee hive, and contain no additives or preservatives. The natural derivation of such products makes them far less liable to side effects which are a common problem with many prescription drugs. We always advocate responsible understanding of our products, and would therefore issue the following advice: Never substitute any complementary treatment for a treatment already prescribed by a doctor, without prior consultation.
Do not expect overnight, or "miracle" results, and allow at least a month before evaluating any treatment. Diabetics should avoid honey, and therefore Apimist, due to the fructose content. We would advise taking our products as part of a balanced meal.
As with any treatment, if you do notice unusual side-effects, we advise you to stop taking the product, and to seek appropriate medical advice.
Are Apitherapy products suitable for children?
Honey may encourage growth in premature babies. Helps teeth to develop better, and may help in cases of bedwetting and improves the sleep pattern. We do not recommend propolis for children under four as this is the time they should be building up their own immune systems. This therefore is Apimist and Propolis - pollen may be used as a rich multi nutrient and help growth problems.
Are Apitherapy products suitable for vegetarians?
Yes - no bees are harmed during our production process. Our Royal Jelly cream contains a standard vegan base, which contains no animal products, and has not been used for experiments on animals. All our honey, Royal Jelly, Propolis, and Pollen is taken from the hive without causing any harm to the worker bees or to the queen bees.
